Cross Your Fingers

For some reason, I started looking at houses today.

The one two doors down--the one we've been lusting after since we found out it was going on the market last spring--is still for sale. It's been on the active market for going on 8 months now. They've dropped the listing price by $25k already.

Which just about puts it in our price range.

So I went to lendingtree.com and ended up on the phone with some mortgage broker telling me we could easily get into that house, so long as my name and shitty credit is nowhere near the loan application. Figures. I make the payments, his credit is the one that improves. But whatever.

The thing is, in order for us to be able to afford it, we'd have to get the sellers down another $25k.

But at this point, they've been paying two mortgages for almost a year, so they've surely got to be getting hot to trot to sell--right?

Hey, the worst thing they can do is say NO. Why not give it a try?

BTW, when we bought our house my credit was pretty sketchy thanks to college credit card debt. So Joey applied on his own and got the loan, but my name went on all the paperwork. Last time we bought, I had the better credit score. Explain that one to me!

Oh, that's bullshit. If you're married, BOTH scores should improve. If only it worked that way.
