What a Difference a Few Months Make...
I realized yesterday that I don't miss cigarettes anymore.
I no longer think about smoking with that longing, desolate feeling I used to have. It's just something I don't do, like smoking crack and robbing liquor stores. I no longer feel like I've lost my best friend. Smoking has become more like that old boyfriend from way back that was hard to get over but really bad for me that I haven't thought of in a very long time.
It's nice.
I came to this realization at the zoo yesterday (where I froze my ass off because the Weather Channel lied to me--fuckers). I noticed all the people who were smoking at the zoo looked, well, trashy. Granted, the majority of them would have looked trashy with or without the cigarette, but still, I had to wonder--did I look that trashy when I smoked? Perish the thought.
I'm also a lot less cranky, so I guess it's possible a lot of my general nuttiness of the first of the year was nothing more than nicotine withdrawal. (Oh, and my general disgust for all things "winter." But that's another post.)
Sorry, Marlboro Man. We had some good times, but it just didn't work out. I'm sure you'll find someone else.

I am sure you did not look trashy! Nevertheless, I am psyched for a positive feedback on how you feel post-smoking and nicotine detox.
What a great thought to have yesterday - that is an accomplishment of which be proud.
I think it is so wonderful you quit.
Also, tomorrow is the first day of spring.
